Historic Restoration

HVAC at Wright Brothers Visitor Center

Heritage Contracting was called upon by the National Parks Service to remedy deliverables that were poorly executed on a renovation contract completed by a different contractor. Several elements of the newly installed HVAC system had to be redesigned and replaced. Additionally, the parge coat on the base of the exterior of the building was failing. Heritage removed parge coat, applied skim coat and exterior elastomeric coating, and installed mow strips to protect building exterior from landscaping work damage.

Historic Flagpole Restoration at Arlington National Cemetery

This project involved the restoration of three historic flagpoles. Two were located at Arlington National Cemetery and one was at the Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home. Due to the historical nature of these flagpoles, a Conservator was hired to develop and oversee the workplan that would satisfy the strict guidelines governing the restoration of historic items. Man-lifts could not be used because of the sensitive nature of the site and potential disturbance they may cause during ongoing ceremonies. Scaffolding was utilized to access all three poles.
